One question about this novel. The status shows that the Web Novel is (Complete) and the Light Novel is (Ongoing). I understand that the light novel is a collection of the web novel chapters after any sort of adaptation. 592z1l

My question is, Is the Novel (storywise) complete and finished? The undelaying question would be, Did the author already finished the story (web version) and the Light Novel will only collect it? OR will the light novel story continue after it catches up the web version ending?

The Web chapters are said and complete. What's ongoing right now is the spear hero gaiden.

Before the final battle, the spear hero is sent to the past in a type of time loop, every time one the other 3 heroes, including the shield hero dies, the loop is reset, and begins anew. Raphtalia goes into the time loop to rescue him as well.

The Light Novels are the collection of the Web Novels chapters rewritten, with better explanations and world building, it extends and greatly elaborate some things that were a little harder to explain in the web novels due to a variety of reasons. Of course, don't forget the light novels have the beautiful illustrations of Minami Seira, something that the web novel clearly lacks as well.

Think of the light novels more like a "director's cut edition" of the web novel.

Thanks for info.
So, the story will not expand futher than what the web novel reached?

I mean, I do not know what the ending is, if it is MC going back home, then I suppose that will be it, but if it is a "To-Love-Ru" ending (Their crazy days go on....) then it is possible to expand.

The endings (3 endings) will probably be rewritten (The explanations were a little iffy in the original web novels), But outside of it, it's apparently set in stone.

But as I said, the light novels are already expanding the story quite a bit, for example, here's a great compilation of differences just from volume 1:

Volume 1

Light Novel

Chapter 16 - Twin Headed Black Dog - Houses Illustration #6
Chapter 17 - Preparation for the Wave
    Chapter 18 - The Barbarian's Armour
Chapter 19 - Engraved Dragon Hourglass
    Chapter 20 - Sword
Side Story - The Reformation of the Spear Hero
Side Story - Flag on Kid's Lunch (not the same content as the WN's)

Web Novel

    Doesn't have a chapter for illustration # 6
Chapter 16 - Preparations for the Wave
    Chapter 17 - The Barbarian's Armour
Chapter 18 - Engraved Dragon Hourglass
    Chapter 19 - Memory/Black Beast
    No Side Stories

Credits goes to Baka-tsuki

I see. Thank for the information.

Maybe it is because i am a fan of the perpetually-ongoing/really long series that I feel like short series are too short XD

Just the main story has like 384 chapters. Adding the spear hero gaiden, it's already close to 600 chapters (And it's ongoing), so i don't think this story is so short as you think.

Keep in mind that the translations that you're reading are based on the Web Novel version of the story, not the Light Novel.

I was skimming through the future chapters and I was wondering about spear hero gaiden. Not to spoil anything but if the spear hero is the main hero of that series does he become any more like-able as a character?

From what is available online (about ~60 chapters) he doesn't appear to be a character I'd really want to read about. Does he undergo like huge character development during the main story or what?
