Blue is the first shoujo-ai manga I've ever read that ended in a way I found believable. It illustrates the emotions of a girl who is unfortunate enough to fall in love with a classmate who obviously prefers men over women. 2t4nv
Contrary to what you'd normally expect from such a scenario, there is no melodrama or annoying, over-the-top angst here. Kayako is a quite calm and rarely sheds tears - despite...
There are hundreds of GL out there where everything works out way too well, and the protagonist's biggest worry is whether or not she looks cute enough to catch her potential girlfriend's eye. If that's what you want, then it'd be better to give Otome Cake a .
While I do understand that unrealistic happily-ever-afters are the whole point of the romance genre, I also see absolutely no need to...
A very nice collection of shoujo-ai oneshots -- simple and sweet, and more often than not, at least marginally realistic in that most of the couples did not end up together.
Itoshi no Maid-sama and Yozora no Ouji to Asayake no Hime were not to my liking since they were typical schoolgirl lesbian stories which did not match the overall mood of the compilation. But Giraffes' Necks are Too Long, whil...
This is one of those rare GL which is like a ray of sunshine in a world of mediocre, make-believe, "hot, but cute" schoolgirl romances. The cutesy art may have you believing otherwise, but the selfish, manipulative characters who are a reflection of real-life women and the no-nonsense depiction of love and lust in their true self-centred, self-serving glory lent both Cocytus and Moratorium a...
...there is definitely something missing from this story; that being, any meaningful dialogue between Rutsu and her two lovers. As far as I could see, the only person with whom she ever carried out thought-provoking and compelling conversations was her married male friend.
In the end, the fact that she chose the female editor over the male one seemed to depend solely on the fact that she felt...
If you're the kind of person who thinks that a "real" GL manga should be full of unnaturally moe students in an all-girls school fooling around all day - including in public - without the slightest fear of social ostracism, if you're allergic to seeing boys in your GL, if the very thought that one of the pair (and not the femme, either) might be bisexual makes you break out in hives, if you always...
I only gave this a high rating (yes, 6/10 is a good score from me, for a romance series) because of the absurdly gorgeous cast. My utter joy at finding a yuri manga where the characters have faces appropriate for their age and beautiful, well-proportioned bodies (instead of the faces and figures of 10-year-olds embellished with gigantic breasts and abnormally wide hips like in the majority of GL...
Kanojo no Sekai is quite different from your typical schoolgirl GL, in a good way. There are no "sweet, pure, innocent" girls here: they're capable of lust, jealousy and manipulative behaviour like any real teenager. (Which probably explains the low rating: the average GL fan is pretty much denied their fantasies of "moeness" here)
It's very short (157 pages) -- too short to be truly complex or...
The premise and the ending were quite nice, especially for a purely romance story like this one, but the fluctuations in mood between happy and tragic were jarring and the build-up of suspense was practically non-existent. I suspect the author wanted to incorporate mystery and supernatural themes into her writing without giving up the typical cutesy shoujo-ai shenanigans and slice-of-life setting:...
Basically, this manga brings up serious relationship issues, makes the two women involved have sex, and BAM -- everything is peachy again in fantasy GL land.
The girls are nicely drawn, and I suppose the sex scenes are pretty okay. Yuri by female mangaka almost always have more class, somehow, than those drawn by male ones (and infinitely more tolerable body proportions), but the praise ends there...
I love that title but certainly didn't enjoy the actual story. The mangaka was too obsessed with a happy ending and little to no attention was paid to the actual resolution of the plot. I didn't mind the two-dimensional quality of the characters (after all, not everyone can have a dark, traumatic past!) but I disliked how everything worked out in a convenient fashion just so the couple could end...
Excited to see the 'action' and 'supernatural' genre tags in conjunction with the GL demographic? So was I, but after reading this terrible excuse for a story, I highly recommend anyone who sees this comment to go read a slice-of-life manga featuring schoolgirl lesbians instead: at least you'll be saved from having to suffer through the utter waste of a good plot bunny that is Shinigami Alice.
