Not a Mod, just a who likes organized data*for the sake of simplicity manga/manhua/manhwa will all be referred to as manga 2n5s2d

Wiki - If you want to set up and maintain a wiki then I can give you stuff to use as a base for the wiki. It needs formatting and rewording since I prefer to use bullet points with sentence fragments instead of full sentences with proper grammar (it includes definitions and instructions similar to the below content.)

Categories in general - Almost all the Categories you would need already exist. If it doesn't come up when you are trying to add them to a specific Manga then follow these steps
1) Spend 5-10 minutes searching Categories (normally takes <1 minute)

  • Tip 1: try using only part of the term you want. Ex * world * that will bring up any category with the letters 'hair' together regardless of the placement in the category. Make sure to include the ***** (asterisk symbol) at the beginning and end of the word you are searching. This will ensure that the search will include results like underworld where the searched word is inside another word.
  • Tip 2: Try synonyms like 'realm' instead of 'world'
  • Tip 3: Look at the categories on a manga similar to the one you are making the category for
  • Tip 4: If it is s*x related it almost certainly exists
  • Tip 5: Check to see if using multiple categories together will work (ex use Cat/s and Pet/s instead of making 'Pet Cat/s' )

2) Before Creating a Category identify how unique it is. A general rule of thumb I use is a category needs to apply to at least 40 manga (can be more or less depending on the purpose)

  • If the Category is new sub-genre that is becoming common then ~20 manga (recent example of an new sub-genre is 'Guideverse' )
  • Categories that compliment existing categories like Hair or Eye color can be done with a lower threshold. In these cases make sure the format of the new category matches the existing ones (example: a potential new category in the future is 'Rainbow-Haired Protagonist' )

3) Make sure to format the new category correctly. This Means Capitalizing the First Letter of Most Words <- sentence is the example

why were the 'Adapted from' categories combined with the 'Based on'? They are not the same thing.

Adaptations - These stay close to the source material. ex: I can get spoilers for an unfinished adaptation manga by reading the source web novel.

Based on - This includes works that deviate significantly from the original source material or just inspired by the original source

An example for animated films is

  • The Ghibli film "Howl's Moving Castle" is just based on the book. It deviates so far from the original book that it would be impossible to make a movies of the book's sequel.

While the marriage and enemy tags are frequently together that is not always the case.

Enemies become lovers - In Love With Enemy are not the same thing

-- "Enemies become lovers" means they actually got intimate or are dating (this occurs often for both person and family/political enemies) but doesn't actually mean that there are feeling attached

-- "In Love With Enemy" - means having feelings for a person who is your enemy on a personal/political/family basis. It doesn't mean that they will ever date and/or get intimate. There is also platonic love interests (for romances where one of the couple is an object, spirit, dead etc

Contract Marriage - Marriage Contract is another pair that isn't always both

Marriage Contracts can be a promise to marry (in manga this is often nobles deciding who their kids will marry as adults. It is often political in nature). The existence of a marriage contract doesn't guarantee they actually get married. (ex: breaking the engagment, death before marriage etc). It is common in shoujo stories that characters break the engagement if they don't fall in love. With Josei you more often see the characters marry and be miserable for a while if they don't fall in love before the marriage.

Contract Marriage - Used for when the characters get married with a contract that has set and possibly an end date. Rarely are the characters in love at the beginning and sometimes they never fall in love. These stories frequently contain divorce, abuse, intimacy only to get kids, r*pe etc.

Here is a difference.

Change

Mermaid Male Lead -> Merfolk Male Lead
Mermaid Female Lead -> Merfolk Female Lead

Reason: Merfolk is a term that refers to any creature that is half-human and half-fish, including mermaids and mermen. Mermaids, on the other hand, specifically refer to female creatures that are half-human and half-fish.

Either that or change "Mermaid Male Lead" -> "Merman Male Lead" but it seems better to just have both tags be Merfolk for consistency

I didn't make the definitions

Adaptation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_adaptation

based on https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/base-on

*All my arguments for not merging specific tags are not personal opinions unless specifically stated. I spend time double checking with multiple sources before posting to make sure I don't make false claims. I try to include specific examples as well.

I could start linking my sources every time if that would help? It would be easier for me since I won't have to spend time finding well known examples (takes an average of 40 minutes between the definition verification and finding the examples).

If I took the time I could give a list of 200-500 examples for every tag combination I argue against (I would need to use normal novels in addition to manga/manhwa/manhua to get those numbers though)*

Alright, this isn't really a bug per se, but I am looking for help regarding entry conventions on this site.

https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4803010099/
https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B0B5GRX5GV?ref_=dbs_p_pwh_rwt_anx_cl_0&storeType=ebooks

These two manga have the exact same title, but different authors (the latter came about after the former manga artist became bedridden or unwell). Should I add all the authors of both versions to the same entry? Or does the two versions merit their own separate entries (supposedly the latter one drastically rewrites the plot in a way more true to the original light novel)

The relevant bakamanga entry is this: https://mangaupdates.cinevost.com/series/ikbibrc/watashi-nouryoku-wa-heikinchi-de-tte-itta-yo-ne

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Former Royalty
Ex-Prince
Fallen Royal

Fallen (not by choice) is subtype of former as it's with "Fallen Nobility" xd and can be ex-prince but still royal (husband of marquess for example)

Succubus
Sex Demon/ess

Btw if it will be merged, the new tag should be named "Succubus/Incubus" because second tag contains both

I would add that a character can me a former royal (but not fallen) for multiple reasons such as:

  • chose to give up their position
  • marriage (adding situations for Nyxsha's example)
        • sometimes women no longer considered royalty after marriage
        • or they married someone with a lower status

Also I think keeping Prince separate from Royalty is better. There are so many similar series that having more granularity is better.

I think you're splitting hairs. Look at how the based on tag is used in practice on manga updates, you basically want to change how everyone uses the tags. It probably will get people who "misuse" the tag and muddy the difference, in my opinion.
