I don't want to sound like a cynic, but do you honestly think sopa would have been put on hold or even met major resistance in the us congress if google and other internet companies did not use 90 million dollars in lobbying efforts to try and stop sopa and counter lobby the entertainment industry. I feel bad for saying this but the moment news corp and the entertainment industry out spend google is the moment a sopa like bill will be ed 2s1o36

Whatever... do your small peaceful part to help people come to their senses. Just cuz it won't help much doesn't mean you give up, and do nothing. If it does happen to ill probably be out in protests, along with many others..... heck with how messed up this is I wouldn't put rioting out of the question, maybe congress will have better understanding when their building is on fire.

actually it is Disney one of the biggest companies in the world only spent roughly 6 million in lobbying efforts in the past year and even though 6 million is a fraction of a fraction of their revenue they still got bills that they wanted like the micky mouse protection act ed through congress. corporations spend a tiny percentage of their profits in lobbying. 90 millions is considered a huge amount of money when lobbying

im talking about all the companies as a whole...there's a lot of billion dollar companies that are for this bill and have spent years (and a lot of money) to get these bills through, i think this is like the 2nd or 3rd attempt for SOPA to , of course some notable ones like Sony have subsequently switched sides after seeing how people feel about this bill.

even as a whole the lobbying branch of the gaming and entertainment industry almost never spend over 90 million in lobbying efforts.

2008 91.7 million dollars were spent to lobby this bill, 2009 it jumped to 144.5million usd.

one more thing thing the MPAA and RIAA only spent 1.8 million in 2010 to lobby for blocking website that contain copyright materiel which is basically the main purpose of sopa. so as i said it very rare for the entertainment industry to spend more the 90 million in lobbying efforts and politicians are cheaper than you think

the us chamber mostly lobbies for oil and banking companies and they spent 132 million of the 185 you mentioned so 185-132=53 million
dont get me wrong the entertainment industry has spent over 90 million in the past 2 years but internet companies have more or less matched what they spent ON lobbying for copyright laws thats why i said its rare for them to spend over 90 mil

the chamber of commerce work on getting trillion of dollars of subsides for oil companies and bank bailouts sopa is probably the least important issue on their agenda i would be surprised if they spent more than 5 million on lobbying for copy right laws
